The second Friday of every month, a tiny little theater in my town has a midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
If you’ve never seen the show, it is one of the best experiences you will ever have.
A lot of people don’t understand Rocky. And granted, when I first saw it I was kind of confused as well.
But since losing my Rocky virgin status, I have come to love the show.
When I go to Rocky, I get to bring out a whole other side of myself. The quiet, bubbly, sweet girl in the day turns into a badass of a punk rocker by night.
Where else can you wear fishnet tights, black lipstick, scream obscenities at a movie screen, and just be another part of the gang?
In the movie, during one of the songs, one of the characters says, “My confidence has increased.” as she transforms from this:
The movie also includes a trans character, and strays from gender and hetero-normative concepts.
In conclusion, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a place where even the weirdest people can be accepted and feel at home. It’s a great movie, with great music, and once you see it, you’ll never quite be the same.
So rock on Rocky fans, because dammit…. (janet)
